Edward Lucius Gwynn’s copy of 'A Manual of Prayers for the use of the Catholic Laity'. Prayerbook used by Edward Lucius (Fr Gwynn’s brother, who died in Sydney aged 28 in 1919) in Australia and kept for fifty years by Cornelia Jennings. With a Greek inscription on the flyleaf and the following inscription on the opposite page ‘Love is stronger than Death, but Time is stronger than both. Therefore when we die then Time will be no more.’

Includes: handwritten letter from Fr John S Bourke, St Patrick's College SJ, Grey Street, East Melbourne, to Irish Fr Provincial John Fahy SJ on issues such as: school results; vocations; the community spirit at St Patrick's College, ‘a happy family’; finances; the Archbishop of Melbourne and his wish for a reception for the Papal Legate; the choice of a new novitiate - give a trial to Dalton Estate, Duntryleague, Orange, New South Wales…the Bishop of Bathurst refused us permission to go to Orange ,'Now I think we should sell the property. Whatever sentimental reasons there may have been for holding it to please the Dalton's - must now I think be overruled.' (2 December 1928, 6pp).
